An imposing all-rounder, Hastings really came to the fore during the back-half of the 2008/09 season, nearly forcing his way into the team for the Sheffield Shield final on the back of three exceptional performances where he captured 16 wickets at 18.56, which included a five-wicket haul against his former side NSW. Earlier in the season, Hastings took a hat-trick against QAS at Cricket Australia Cup-level.

A qualified physical education teacher, 'The Duke' has had the best season of his career during the 2009/10 season. He is the leading wicket-taker in the country in the Ford Ranger Cup and sits third on the list of Sheffield Shield bowlers with two rounds to play, with 21 wickets at 24.2 behind Queensland's Ben Cutting and South Australia's Peter George.

As a batsman, he has blossomed and not just with the power hitting. Despite not passing10 in the Sheffield Shield before this season, he is coming off 93 in Hobart and has 257 shield runs at 51.4 for the summer. Hastings' performance also earned him selection in the PM's XI team that played the West Indies in Canberra.
