Three Vics in PM's game

Three young Victorians John Hastings, James Pattinson and Jon Holland have been included in the Prime Minister's XI for the February 4 international against the West Indies at Manuka Oval, Canberra. Hastings, 24, Pattinson, 19 and Holland, 22 have been recognised for their potential and performance so far this representative summer. The team is to be captained by Matthew Hayden, holder of the highest score (380) by an Australian in Test history. Australia's National Selection Panel chairman Andrew Hilditch said the squad shows the depth of young talent in the Australian cricket system and rewards those who have impressed for their state. “The players in this squad have already shown great form in the interstate season and they now get a chance to prove themselves against a quality West Indies outfit,” Hilditch said. He said the Victorian trio "were developing nicely" and richly deserved their call-up. Victorian coach Greg Shipperd said the recognition was pleasing for the trio. "Often in the past lads who have been named for this match have gone onto play frontline roles for Australia at Test and one-day level," he said. "We'd love that to also be the case for John, James and Jon."
