Victorian Bushrangers

Tanvir misses out

Sat, 26 December 2009

Pakistan all-rounder Sohail Tanvir will not appear for the DEC Bushrangers in the Twenty20 Big Bash competition after failing to recover from a knee injury. Tanvir was due to play in the Bushrangers' first Big Bash game against the Bulls at the Gabba on Monday but doctors advised the 25-year-old to continue resting his injured knee, ruling him out of the tournament. Tanvir had originally replaced Muttiah Muralitharan as Victoria's second foreign import after West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, but the left-armer did not fly to Australia as expected, saying he felt it was unfair on Cricket Victoria to turn up while not fully fit. "It was a golden opportunity and of course this is a huge loss for me and my cricket but I don't want to take a risk on my injury," Tanvir told 'Cricdb.com'. "As much as I feel good with my fitness, I have to listen to the advice of my doctor (Sohail Saleem), who has been working on my knee injury for few months." "As per the doctor's advice, I need another two to three weeks to be fully recovered," he said. Tanvir played for the Redbacks last year but has struggled throughout 2009 after injury also forced him to withdraw from playing for English County side Surrey.
